Contemporary art and the Year of Glaciers’ Preservation will take the audience on a journey through a close, yet seemingly far, relationship between the ice of Greenland and that of the Alps, Europe, and the globe.

The Italian artist Stefano Cagol will discuss the cultural dialogue between Greenland, Italy, and Denmark that he initiated in recent years, following the success of his iconic artwork, “The Ice Monolith,” at the 2013 Venice Biennale. After exploring the Ilulissat Ice Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Greenland, thanks to the support of the Italian Council, he started a strong interaction with Greenlandic artists and scientists. He invited photographer Inuuteq Storch to the Italian Cultural Institute in Copenhagen, and artist Ivínguak Stork Høegh to exhibit for the first time in Italy in “As Ice” at Castel Belasi Contemporary Art Center for Eco Thought, of which he is the artistic director. Moreover, in early October 2025, his project/dialogue “ICE MELTING ICE” at the Natural History Museum in Copenhagen, curated by Rikke Jørgensen of Arts and Globalization, included artist Jessie Kleemann and geologist Minik Rosing, both Greenlandic.

Following this relevant and positive experience, Cagol will have the pleasure of welcoming Jessie Kleemann and Rikke Jørgensen as special guests to his presentation at the Arktisk Festival 2025.

On this occasion, the collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Embassy in Copenhagen continues.
